Customer Small Quilt

Usually customers bring in several of their projects to share. Here is another one of her projects. What is fun about this project was how it progressed. She came into the shop a while ago with the project partially finished. She had a boarder in mind. After laying the project out on the table it became clear that choice would not work. We then had the fun of trying a variety of fabrics to see what would work. Finally it was the white background with purple flowers that set it off. We love helping select fabrics for your new or in progress projects!

Didn't it turn out fantastic!

Aunt Martha Flour Sack Tea Towel

I love it when customers bring in their finished projects! The shop carries Aunt Martha's Towels. She purchased the flour sack towel at the shop and then completed it in applique and embroidery. Now I want to get back into doing towels. They are fun, easy and quick projects! Just what I need!

Didn't she do a great job!

Girls Quilting Class Plus a Surprise!

This class developed because of one Grandma and one Mother.  They wanted the girls to learn to quilt.  The class plan was to work at their skill level.  Grandma and Mother were going to do the cutting and the girls do the planning and sewing.  What is great is it is working!

It has been so much fun for all involved.  There is one more sessions but here are some pictures of the process.

Then the surprise happened.  The Mother and Grandmother did not realize they had a mutual neighborhood friend.  They did not know that. This friend kept saying you have to meet this quilter I know.  Finally the friend had them all over for a time to meet.  They all laughed to learn they were actually the women from the Girls Quilting Class and knew each other.  They plan on meeting regularly as neighbors that love quilting.  You never know what will happen when you take a class at the shop!

Reminder Special Event Kathy Lindell Owner of Eagles Nest Designs

What an opportunity to have Kathy come to Spindles and Quilts on February 23, 2013 from 1pm to 4pm.  She will be sharing many of her wonderful patterns.  Tip on quilting and review of the patterns is part of the Demo.

Here is a little about her in her own words -

I started sewing in Junior High School making garments but didn't start quilting until 1994. I took my first class from an excellent local instructor in Wichita Falls, Texas, where we learned to do the entire process by hand- the old fashioned way (piecing with templates, sewing and quilting). After that I learned to do the same techniques by machine. It wasn’t long before I started “tweaking” patterns to suit myself and that lead to designing my own. I have been designing my own quilts since 1995.

In 1998 I started teaching at local guilds and shops. I have had the opportunity to take courses in dating fabrics (2000), quilt appraisal (2001), and quilt judging (2002) (certified).

Eagles Nest Designs was established in 2004 when I started marketing my designs.
Since that time I have lectured and given trunk shows at local guilds and taught at local shops in the northwest.

Starting in 2008 I have been traveling with my quilts, patterns and kits as a vendor in many of the shows in the Northwest.

Map of the US Panel

The other day I posted on Facebook a US Map panel that looked like a US Puzzle that I had as a child.  I am sure they still make them.  I had immediately several fun ideas for the panel.

  1. How great it would be for a small quilt for a child learning the map of the US.
  2. It would be perfect for the RV.
  3. A great gift for the traveler to snuggle up with in the winter.
  4. Instead of a coffee table book the quilt would be a perfect conversation piece in the family room or on the summer porch.
Here is a picture of the panel.  There are only 2 left at the store.
